Modern fuse boards have RCD protection. An RCD, or residual current device is a life saver. This device will detect within 0.04 of a second if power is getting diverted under fault conditions with examples below:-
a) A person is getting an electric shock
b) water is coming into contact with electricity.
Standard MCB fuses will only trip if there isĀ a short circuit or if they are being overloaded.
An RCD gives you that added life saving protection which a standard MCB will not.
There is also the RCBO which is a combined MCB and RCD in one. This is a unique device where if there is a fault, it will only trip the Fused circuit with the fault on. Consumer units with a bank of RCBO’s are the preferred set up by Goodwin Elec
